Experiment 1

AP Biology

Week 1- 2003

 Fresh Water Aquatic Ecology

Part One. Data Analysis

All students should analyze data collected.

Data Analysis –All graphs should include the following

Title – Explaining the Experiment

Labeled axes

Correct scale on both axes

Key- Color coded

Name, section, date.

Students are encouraged to use technology to prepare graphs.  If graphs are done by hand they must be prepared on graph paper, lines drawn with rulers, contain a color- coded key, with axes labeled.

Compare the numbers of organisms from different kingdoms

  1. Compare the different organisms in one kingdom
  2. Compare the number of producers – cyanobacteria, algae, and plants, to the number of animals( protozoans, worms, crustaceans, rotifers, and insect larvae.

Part Two. Discussion

Students should summarize their scientific study of the fresh water aquatic environment commenting on the data collected by their group.

Factors to include –

  1. Diversity of organisms
  2. Presence of plants, algae, and cyanobacteria
  3. Number of types of protozoans
  4. Larvae
  5. 5. Physical factors
