Background:
Why protect a poorly
drained area of land, very often scorned by developers and filled in for homes,
factories, agricultural land, and drained to water crops?
We need them!! Wildlife needs them!! You
will see why in this project.

Task: You are a member of a team employed by the New Jersey Environmental Protection Agency. Each year a big traveling display is constructed to demonstrate one of the important environmental issues in the state. The display is taken around to schools, universities, and Earth Day fairs and it includes brochures for students to take and learn about the theme. The theme for this year's display is "Wetlands." You will work with your team members to research the important issues, facts, and problems associated with the wetlands. Each person on the team needs to concern themselves with one or more of the main issues:

|
Definition of a wetland and types of wetlands
|
New Jersey wetlands | |
|
Wildlife in the wetlands
|
Wetlands protection and laws
|
Recreation and other benefits derived from protecting wetlands |
|
A comprehensive brochure will be constructed as the end result of the research.
There must be a typed list of references accompanying the brochure demonstrating the use of at least six reliable sources per person using correct form!
All members must present the brochure to the class
Must complete a project summary by the end of the week (June2, 2005) |
