2004 Season Results


Final 2004 Record:  14 - 4

Boys Lacrosse Defeats Eastern 12 - 6.  The Chiefs rebounded from the playoff  loss on Sat. to defeat the Vikings 12 - 6 in their final game of the season.  The Chiefs got off to a slow start with the score tied 5-5 at half.  Jon Fisher scored a season high 4 goals and Matt Dunn recorded a "Hat Trick" with 3 goals to lead the Cherokee offensive attack.  Goalie Chris Tsigiounis came up big in the 2nd half allowing only 1 goal and making 12 saves on the afternoon.  Boys Lacrosse finishes the season with an excellent 14 - 4 record

Boys Lacrosse Loses to Christian Brothers Academy 17 - 2 in NJ State Playoffs.  The Chiefs ran into another strong North Jersey squad falling in the 2nd round of the NJ State Lacrosse Championship tournament.  Cherokee's goals were by Eric Olson and Kevin Sterling.  The Chiefs wrap up their season on Mon. 5/24 at Home vs Eastern - 4pm

Boys Lacrosse Defeats Washington Twp 9 - 4 to Advance in State Playoffs.  Sophomore Matt Dunn gets the "Hat Trick" to lead the Chiefs to their 1st ever playoff win.  Jon Fisher dominated play in the midfield and scored 2 goals.  Goalie Chris Tsigiounis had a great game holding the Minutemen to only 1 first half goal.  Chiefs defensive unit of Chris Parillo, Ryan Sterling, and Sean Streicher kept the Wash. Twp attack in check the whole game.  The Chiefs will now play Christian Brothers Academy on Sat May 22 at  CBA - 11 am

Varsity Boys Lacrosse Dominates Paul VI  13 - 2.  The Chiefs rebound after a tough loss on Monday to take down the Eagles of Paul VI.  Cherokee got balanced scoring from 9 different players and the defense stepped up to only allow 2 goals.  Multi goals scorers were Kevin Sterling - 3 goals, Eric Olson - 2 goals, Matt Dunn - 2 goals, and Tim Stahl - 2 goals.  Jon Fisher, Drew McLaughlin, George Braker, Alwin Heller, and Jim Nasto each had 1 goal each for the Chiefs. 

Boys Lacrosse Loses to Shawnee 13 - 2.  The Chiefs scored 1st going up 1 - 0 and it was 2 - 2 before a 30 minute lightning delay.  The lightning must have awoke the Renegades who came back and scored 11 unanswered goals.  Cherokee's Eric Olson scored both goals for the Chiefs.  Goalie Chris Tsigiounis had some excellent saves in the cage.

Boys Lacrosse Crushes Lenape 12 - 2. The Chiefs came out and put any thought of a Lenape upset out of reach by jumping to an 8 - 0 half-time lead.  Sophomore Matt Dunn recorded A "Hat Trick" scoring 3 goals. Jon Fisher and Kevin Sterling each scored 2 goals.  Zach Fisher, Justin Gonzales, Eric Olson, Drew McLaughlin, and Joey Allen had 1 goal each.  Boys Lax playoff seeds & games will be posted on www.njsiaa.org on Friday afternoon 

Boys Lacrosse Defeats New Egypt 15 - 4.  The Chiefs continue to dominate putting up 15 goals in cruising to their 10th win of the season over New Egypt.  Sophomore Eric Olson returned to the line-up and ripped the nets for 5 goals as Cherokee's top goal scorer.  Matt Dunn, Kevin Sterling, and Zach Nord each scored 2 goals apiece.  Zach Fisher also returned to the midfield and notched a goal for the Chiefs.  Drew McLaughlin, Jon Fisher, and long stick defender Sean Streicher each scored 1 goal.

Boys Lacrosse Defeats Lenape 8 - 3The Chiefs regrouped after a tough loss last week to down a good Lenape team by 5 goals.  Sophomore Matt Dunn  scored 4 goals and Kevin Sterling netted a "Hat Trick" with 3 goals.  Mid-fielder Jon Fisher scored 1 goal .

Boys Lacrosse Falls to Washington Twp 8 - 3.The Chiefs had a rough day with numerous penalties and playing man down for over 7 minutes in the game.  Eric Olson , Drew McLaughlin, and Ryan Trachtenberg each scored 1 goal to pace the offense. 

Boys Lacrosse Gets Big Win over Eastern 6 - 4.  Chiefs pull out a big Olympic conference win by defeating the Eastern Vikings on their home turf.  Jon Fisher and Kevin Sterling led the Chiefs with 2 goals each.  Ryan Trachtenberg and Matt Dunn recorded 1 goal each. Goalie Chris Tsigiounis and the Cherokee defense played a strong game led by Ryan Sterling, Sean Streicher, and John Tsigiounis.

Boys Lacrosse Defeats Camden Catholic 14 - 4.  Sophomore Eric Olson and Junior Kevin Sterling both scored 5 goals apiece to lead the Chiefs in the mud and rain  plagued game.  Sophomore Matt Dunn recorded 3 goals and Joey Allen had 1 goal as Cherokee raises its record to 7 - 1. 

Boys Lacrosse Gets Big Win over St Augustine 7 - 6.  Eric Olson scored 3 goals to lead the Cherokee attack in a big win over the Hermits of St. Augustine Prep.  Matt Dunn , Jim Nasto, Kevin Sterling, and Drew McLaughlin all scored 1 goal each to contribute to the win.

Varsity Boys Lacrosse Crushes Vineland 14 - 1.  Sophomore attack Matt Dunn ripped the Vineland defense for 4 goals in leading the Chiefs to their 5th win of the season.  Sophomore goalie Chris Tsigiounis played a super game in the cage only giving up 1 goal late in the contest.  Sophomore attack Eric Olson had 3 goals and  freshman attack Drew McLaughlin netted  2 goals.  Tim Stahl, Justin Gonzales, Jon Fisher, and Ryan Trachtenberg all scored 1 goal each to round out the Cherokee scoring 

Boys Lacrosse Loses to Shawnee 16 - 4The Chiefs struggled in the second half against the undefeated Renegades.  Jon Fisher, Matt Dunn, Drew McLaughlin, Eric Olson all had 1 goal each as the Chiefs take their 1st loss of the year.

Boys Lacrosse Defeats Winslow Twp 8 - 7. Sophomore Eric Olson exploded for a career high 5 goals in leading the Chiefs to the Olympic Conference win over a tough Winslow Twp squad.  Kevin Sterling scored 2 goals and Matt Dunn had 1 goal for Cherokee.  The Chiefs Lacrosse remain unbeaten at 4 - 0.
